About Sydney Denman
Sydney Denman is a cinematographer/photographer from Redondo Beach, California now based in Los Angeles. She recently graduated summa cum laude from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film & Media Arts with a B.F.A. Film Production Cinematography program with a minor in Japanese Studies.
Through her filmmaking, Sydney aims to tell the stories of people whose voices or stories may otherwise go unheard and is particularly interested in stories with characters who are women, mixed-ethnicity, in the LGBTQ+ community, etc. She loves creating visuals that help tell the story and evoke feelings in the audience. Her style as a DP includes colorful images and editorial/portrait influences. She enjoys collaborating with others and being a leader of a team that feels understood, valued, and respected.
Her origins in filmmaking began with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine Female Filmmaker lab, and was inspired to pursue a career by the female professionals who she interviewed for the program’s documentary. Since coming to film school, Sydney has shot a variety of narrative, music, and dance film projects. Her most recent role was being an administrative assistant for Dodge College's academic and Dean’s suite, where she worked for around 3 years during her time in college. She is currently a Production Assistant at Cody Ko and Noel Miller’s TMG Studios, where she also interned in Summer 2023.
